Cloud Engineer (m/f/d) - Remote (based in Romania)
A small piece of paper with numbers that have the power to change a life forever! Okay... let's replace the paper with an app and one person with 600,000+ monthly users. This is our business!
📌 Your Mission
As Cloud Engineer (m/f/d) you will modernize the Next Lotto Cloud platform and build a scalable, reliable foundation for our next stage of growth. You will lead the transition of our cloud environment to Terraform and Kubernetes, creating a robust and maintainable infrastructure setup. Working closely with our development teams, you will help improve scalability and system performance, establish the right observability, and empower engineers to identify and resolve bottlenecks independently. You will also build a pragmatic cloud governance framework that balances speed, security, and compliance - making it easy to onboard new team members, standardize best practices, and meet the requirements of our audits and certifications.
🎯 Your Tasks & Responsibilities
Import and manage our GCP environment in Terraform, and keep state and reality in sync.
Migrate the current application landscape (App Engine and Compute Engine) to Kubernetes (GKE) and operate it in production.
Own GCP IAM: roles, service accounts, least-privilege baseline, and the documentation auditors ask for.
Tune autoscaling for applications and databases so we handle peaks without over-provisioning.
Build the observability our developers need - dashboards, alerts and performance trends they can read themselves.
Track cloud cost, find the drivers, and drive the improvements.
Help automating our CI/CD pipelines so teams can deploy to every environment safely and often.
Support our external audits and certifications with evidence, controls and answers.
Take part in incident response, and document what you build so you are not the only person who understands it.
🏆 Your Impact in This Role
Our production backend services run on GKE, with a documented rollback path.
The majority of our GCP resources are managed in Terraform, with drift visible and fixable.
GCP cost per active user is flat or lower while our customer base grows.
A minimal viable IAM governance framework is in place and holds up in our next external audit.
New developers can be onboarded to the environment in days, not weeks, using documentation you wrote.
🚀 Your Key Competencies
Must-have (Hard Skills):
Proven experience deploying and maintaining containerized workloads in live production Kubernetes environments.
Hands-on ability to manage infrastructure as code with Terraform, including resolving complex configuration drift without destroying resources.
Direct, practical experience building or operating real-world projects on Google Cloud Platform.
Strong diagnostics skills using metrics and logs to identify root causes rather than just surface symptoms.
Solid proficiency in building CI/CD pipelines and writing production-ready shell scripts.
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and document Identity and Access Management policy architectures.
Nice-to-have:
A software development background, ideally Java.
Strong SQL and an understanding of database performance, ideally MySQL.
Experience supporting external audits (ISO 27001 or similar).
CKA certification or comparable.
Experience in a regulated industry (gaming, fintech, health).
Soft Skills:
You work autonomously in a remote setup and ask for support before you are stuck.
You explain your work clearly to people who are not infrastructure specialists, and you take feedback well.
You always see things to improve, but you prioritize by impact and can let the rest wait.
You value simplicity over perfection, and you document as you go.
You are comfortable being the only cloud specialist in the company.
🎓 Your Background – Education & Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
At least 2 years of experience as Cloud Engineer.
Preferred: a CNCF CKAD certificate or comparable.
Bonus: additional experience as software developer.
